Bob Gawthorpe, a legend in the Sages and midlands golfing circles, came to stay and play at St Cathryn’s over the weekend. He was accompanied by a family friend, Mick Bowling, from the UK and met up with the locals for supper around a venison potjie, a good time was had by all. Bob shot a 92 gross playing off the white tees, with a 15 handicap, and as a senior of 74 years did himself proud.

For the past two weeks the most important piece of machinery at St Cathryn’s wasn’t the Greens mower, or Fairway mower or the tee box mower… but the GENERATOR and the generator had a Par 4 on every “hole” even once having a hole in one on stage one.

Planning an irrigation schedule was impossible, not to mention the good old toasted sarmies that Gary makes and we hope all the loadshedding blues are something of the past, mind you with Eskom one ever knows. The generator is not expected to play any further role on the golf course this coming weekend… but lets wait and see.

This coming weekend 29th to 31st March – the Crusaders canoe club make their annual trek up to St Cathryn’s – their base camp where they stay – and take on the mighty Tugela river in their annual fun canoe “race” down the river on Saturday and Sunday. A make shift camp site is prepared for the canoeists and on Saturday night a bonfire and braai await the canoeists.

Reminder to all members and Tee 2 pin members that on Saturday the 6th and 7th March 2019, the Tuta Carriers Club Championship will be played. Accommodation, carts and entry into the championship must be booked. Old timer and competitive golfer Piet Coetzee is vying for the seniors trophy but must contend with Tienie Muller, Michael and Gerald Harrison. The Tee 2 Pin division is open to all those members and homeowners will be contested this year between three homeowners and we hope to see Spook Moore and Caroline Cloete, who also has a chance in the Ladies section with Leonie Coetzee. Junior division is for all scholar members and one of our memebers, Henrico Corbett has to pick between rugby and Golf.
