The defending champion, Merwin Rabe came to the Tuta Carriers Club Championships and from the out set Merwin made his intentions clear that he meant business. On Saturday 26 September 2020 Merwin also won the Farmers Agi-care Monthly Mug for September and the first leg of the championship held over two days 26th and 27th September 2020.
The A division had five players, the most players ever in the club’s history in that division. The ladies had two ladies, in their division, there where also three seniors and one junior all contesting for the trophies and prizes sponsored by Geoff Newlands from Tuta Carriers.
On Saturday the overcast weather changed to arctic conditions on Sunday with low mist clouds with a soft drizzle. None of the farmers in the field complained about the most welcome moisture, a reprieve from the Code red days experienced on Thursday. Greens could not be irrigated on the normal Thursday, so the greens were fast and slick. The pin positions had two testing placements when the Par 4, fourth hole had it’s pin in the front left hand corner, making for accurate chipping. The twelfth had its pin placement in the front below the severe slope on the green. The Tee box markers were stretched to maximum distances of the tee’s, on some of the Tee boxes and then were returned to normal – medium distances and even some, were moved more forward of the Tee’s.

The skyline over St Cathryn’s golf estate has changed forever, when on Saturday a Camphor tree had to be cut down, the decision was not taken lightly. The tree estimated to be over eighty years old, had not survived the last lightning strike in March this year and was becoming a danger to homeowners. A Professional team under the leadership and experience of Cedric from Greytown did an excellent job to fell the tree and branches in three different directions to limit damage to buildings and structures to a minimum.
