August 2020 Farmers Agri-care monthly mug Results

The Farmers Agri-care monthly mug played on Saturday 29 August 2020, saw stern warnings issued by certain players, for the Tuta Carriers Club Championships that are to be played on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th September 2020. When a new lady member and two C division players ended in the first three positions. The two teaching professionals, now both members at St Cathyn’s, could be so proud of Nicole Nieuwoudt and Fritz Volker who both recently had coaching lessons from Marc Alexander and Ryan Kimber.
Both Fritz and Miss Nieuwoudt, in an interview afterwards said, it was like a fifteenth club in the bag – the lessons they had. Volker lost first place on a double count out. Nicole is following in her brother Brian’s footsteps, as Brian was the junior champion at St Cathryn’s in the late nineties. This was also Nicole’s first official outing in a competitive tournament.
The dry fairways waited for the rain forecast, but no rain fell – just some thunder was heard twice during the afternoon. To assist in the expected weather conditions, and not to be caught in the wet, tee box markers on holes 14, 16 and 17 were moved up and hole number 9 was lengthened to the 18th tee box position. The 4th moved back a yard or three, but the course played to the full length. The same pin positions were used as for the last mug, but will be changed to more trickier placements for the club championship to be played on the 26th and the 27th of September 2020.
Dieter Meyer and his son Josh, both not in the field were having a long deserved holiday at the beach, Dieter is organising a fun tournament on the 12th of September 2020, calling it a “Better ball tournament with a twist”… lets wait and see what that will be.

A very good St Cathryn’s member’s spirit prevailed on the deck after the golf and some were even lucky enough to see two swallows sitting on the railing… did they miss the flight before lockdown to Europe or were they expatriated back to sunny South Africa on the first flights back home… nobody knows, as Leonard Cohen says… Everybody knows, but no one really knows.
